Skydive Certification

Becoming A Certified Skydiver
If you've never made a skydive, you are required to do a Tandem Skydive for your first jump. A tandem skydive jump allows you the experience, concentrating on some basic procedures. You can simply relax and enjoy your skydive, while an experienced professional instructor handles the equipment procedures.

If you've already made a jump at Sky’s The Limit in the last 3 months, and are interested in becoming a skydiver, you will need to go through an approved training program. Most drop zones in the United States require skydivers to have a United States Parachute Association license. Sky's the Limit offers two different training methods that will get you well on your way to obtaining a license from the USPA. Each of these programs requires eight skydives or more before you are cleared to jump without supervision. You'll need at least 25 skydives before you can qualify for your first USPA license.

Accelerated Free Fall
The accelerated free fall program consists of a combination of ground school and training jumps. Training begins with ground school, where the student learns everything he or she needs to know in order to make a safe skydive. Ground school is followed by a series of training jumps designed to build the student's knowledge and skills to a point where he or she can safely supervise himself or herself on a solo skydive. During the first few jumps, the student will be accompanied by two instructors during the skydive. Later levels will require only one instructor, and when the student has demonstrated sufficient skills and knowledge, he or she will be cleared to jump without supervision.

Advanced FreeFall Program
The advanced free fall program is designed to help the student get accustomed to skydiving and canopy (parachute) flight before putting him or her in the air under a solo parachute. The course begins with a brief training class before each of the three working tandem skydives. Working tandem skydives require the student to perform some of the tasks that he or she will need to perform later, with the added comfort of having an experienced skydiving instructor with you.

The working tandems are followed by a ground school which prepares the student to wear his or her own gear for the rest of the course. During the remaining jumps, the student is accompanied in the air by one instructor. When the student has demonstrated sufficient skills and knowledge, he or she will be cleared to jump without supervision.

The Advanced FreeFall Program is designed to help the new skydiver become accustomed to the freefall experience and canopy flight alongside an experienced instructor. The student will make four tandem skydives. During tandem skydives the student will demonstrate altitude awareness, stability at pull time, and basic canopy control.

Ground school follows the preliminary tandem skydives; and prepares you with the knowledge you will need to safely make a skydive wearing your own equipment. The ground school lasts approximately 6 hours, and covers preparation, safety, freefall body position, emergency procedures, and canopy (parachute) control.

From this point forward, training is in the AFF program, with the exception that you will only need one instructor to join you on the rest of your skydives. (The AFF program requires two instructors during the first 3 skydives.)
